A Local Market Rooted in Kaʻū
Punaluʻu Farmers Market
The Punaluʻu Farmers Market is here to support local people, local work, and the place we all share.
This market creates opportunities for farmers, makers, and small businesses in Kaʻū, while welcoming visitors to experience the area in a respectful way. It’s a space where people can learn about the land, the culture, and the stories behind what’s grown and made here.
Because Punaluʻu is a place with deep history and a unique natural environment, we take care in how this market is held. Respect for the land, the community, and local culture guides how we operate — now and into the future.
This market is a place where:
local work is valued
local food is shared
visitors learn by observing and participating respectfully
The Spirit of Kaʻū
Produce, Art, and Culture from the Land
Kaʻū is a place shaped by lava, ocean, wind, and time. Everything grown or made here carries that story.
At the Punaluʻu Community Farmers Market, you’ll find:
fresh agricultural products grown in Hawaiʻi
Kaʻū coffee, cacao, and locally prepared foods
handmade art and cultural goods created by local makers
We value products that are connected to the land, made with care, and offered with respect. Protecting the environment and honoring Kaʻū’s cultural roots are part of how this market operates — not an afterthought.
A Market Held with Intention
Before You Apply
Punaluʻu is a place with deep history and meaning. Because of that, this market is organized with care and clear expectations.
Before applying, please make sure this market feels like a good fit for you.
Our Priorities
We prioritize vendors who:
Are local — based in Kaʻū or elsewhere on Hawaiʻi Island
Are creators — growing, making, or producing what they sell
Value community — interested in long-term participation, not one-time selling
Respect the place — understand that Punaluʻu has its own rhythm and tone
This market is not about volume or speed. It’s about consistency, quality, and presence.
Market Schedule
Community Market Day
Community Market Day: Every Sunday
Market Hours: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Vendor Setup: 6:30 AM – 8:00 AM
Community Harmony
Our Sunday schedule is intentionally chosen to complement existing farmers markets in Kaʻū, not compete with them. Currently, there are no farmers markets held on Sundays in the Kaʻū district, allowing this market to create new opportunities for local vendors and the community without overlapping with existing markets.
This approach helps create more opportunities for local vendors while supporting a healthy market ecosystem across the district.

This vendor-only lot allows for:
Convenient access for unloading and setup
Safe, organized parking during market hours
Clear separation from public traffic to reduce congestion
Please follow posted Vendor Parking signage and on-site staff instructions upon arrival. This helps ensure a smooth setup process for everyone and keeps the market flow safe and efficient.
Environmental and Cultural Protection Is Everyone’s Responsibility
The Punaluu Farmers Market, through its operation and public access, provides sustainable business and employment opportunities for the local community. At the same time, by encouraging visitors to spend time away from the immediate shoreline and in designated inland areas, the farmers market helps reduce pressure on the beach environment. This contributes to the protection of the coastline and the conservation of endangered species, including sea turtles.
To support these efforts, vehicles are strictly prohibited from driving toward or parking on the beach or in shoreline areas. If you observe a vehicle parked on the beach, we kindly ask that you offer a respectful and courteous reminder.
By working together with care and respect, we can help protect this sacred and beautiful place for future generations.
